Title 42 › CHAPTER 101 — MAGNETIC FUSION ENERGY ENGINEERING › § 9308
The Secretary, working with the Secretary of State, must try to make new or stronger international agreements for magnetic fusion research that benefit all parties. The Secretary must seek fair exchanges of information, data, scientists, and other benefits when cooperating with technologically advanced nations. The Secretary must study how U.S. participation in an international effort to build a fusion engineering device would affect the national fusion program. The Secretary must also explore whether other nations could share the costs of building such a device. Within two years of October 7, 1980, the Secretary must send the findings and recommendations to the House Committee on Science and Technology and the Senate Committee on Energy and Natural Resources. Those studies must not delay design work on a U.S. fusion engineering device.
