Title 43 › Chapter 1— BUREAU OF LAND MANAGEMENT › § 13
When a U.S. land office officer gets a court order asking for original Bureau of Land Management papers used to issue a land patent, the officer must immediately tell the Secretary of the Interior or the Secretary’s chosen agent which documents are needed. The Secretary must quickly send the original papers to the land office and attach a sealed statement that they are the originals used for the patent. Federal and state courts must accept those certified originals as evidence. The Secretary must make rules to ensure the papers are returned to the BLM after use, at no cost to the United States.
