Within 18 months of November 2, 1995, the Secretary must, after talking with the Secretary of Agriculture, the State of Alaska, and the appropriate Alaska Native Corporations and organizations, send a report to the Committee on Resources of the House of Representatives and the Committee on Energy and Natural Resources of the Senate. The report must describe what contaminants were on lands before they were handed over; identify, as best as possible, who might be responsible for cleaning them up and whether those parties are available; list current cleanup remedies; recommend any new laws needed; and name buildings known to have asbestos and give advice to inform Native landowners about containing it.
