§1908 Experimental Stewardship Program

Summary

The Secretaries of the Interior and Agriculture must create and run an experimental program on selected public rangelands that show different range conditions. The program must give incentives or rewards to grazing permit and lease holders who improve the land. It must test new grazing management ideas, including cooperative projects with federal, state, local, and private users, allowing up to 50% of a permittee’s federal fee to be paid by doing range improvement work, and other incentives. By December 31, 1985, the Secretaries must report to Congress on the experiment, evaluate the fee in section 1905 and other fee options, and recommend a grazing fee schedule for 1986 and later years.
