Land and timber must be appraised at least once every ten years, using the methods in section 2621, and yearly payments are calculated from the most recent appraisal. The Treasury pays appraisal costs after the Interior Secretary certifies them, using the county share of receipts and subtracting those costs from the counties' payment.
