Title 43 › Chapter 46— GEOSPATIAL DATA › § 2809
Covered agencies may not use Federal money, starting on the implementation date, to make, buy, update, keep, or share geospatial data that doesn't meet the standards set under section 2806, as the Committee decides. Implementation date means the date 5 years after standards for each National Geospatial Data Asset data theme are set under section 2806. Agencies may keep and share data that was obtained before the implementation date even if it doesn't meet the new standards. The Committee Chairperson may grant a waiver if an agency asks at least 30 days before the implementation date and gives reasons, a plan to comply, and the date it will be compliant. From when the standards are set until the implementation date, agencies should follow the standards as much as possible.
