Title 43 › Chapter 2— UNITED STATES GEOLOGICAL SURVEY › § 36b
Secretary may get land for USGS to measure streams and groundwater. Land can be donated, bought, or condemned when Congress provides funds, and no site may be more than ten acres. Secretary may obtain easements, licenses, rights-of-way, or leases for needed time. All actions must follow state or territorial water laws and must not change existing water rights of states, the federal government, landowners, or users, including rights in interstate streams.
