§424a Sale of Unproductive Lands; Terms; Area Purchasable; Tracts Included

Summary

The Secretary can sell land in a Federal irrigation project to people who live there and farm or who have entry claims. Prices must be at least the amount from an independent appraisal the Secretary approves, and sales can be private or public on terms he sets. Buyers may not buy more than 160 acres under these rules, or own more than 320 acres on the project. The rule applies to land that is totally unproductive and to parcels that include unproductive parts and that the Secretary finds cannot support a family or pay water charges.
