§597a Easements for Bull Lake Dam and Reservoir

Summary

The United States and any future operators of the Riverton Reclamation Project in Wyoming are allowed to flood parts of the Wind River (Shoshone) Reservation and to use land there for the Bull Lake Dam and Reservoir on Bull Lake Creek. The permission covers the area needed to hold about 155,000 acre-feet of water, with a ten-foot freeboard. Because these rights affect tribal land, $6,500 from the dam’s construction funds must be put into the U.S. Treasury under section 155 of Title 25 for the credit of the Shoshone and Arapaho Indians of the Wind River Reservation, and that money will earn interest at 4 percent per year.
