§617r Consent Given States to Negotiate Supplemental Compacts for Development of Colorado River

Summary

Congress allows Arizona, California, Colorado, Nevada, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming to make extra agreements that follow the Colorado River compact and this law. Those agreements can plan how to store, divert, and use the river. They can include building dams, diversion works, flood-control or reclamation projects, navigation improvements, power plants, and ways to pay for them. The agreements can also create interstate commissions or other entities to run the projects. A U.S. representative picked by the President must join the talks and report to Congress. Any agreement only becomes binding after every listed State’s legislature and Congress approve it.
