Defines key names used in this chapter. The words Colorado River Basin, Colorado River Compact, Colorado River System, Lee Ferry, States of the Upper Division, Upper Basin, and domestic use must be read the same way they are defined in Article II of the Upper Colorado River Basin Compact. States of the Upper Colorado River Basin means Arizona, Colorado, New Mexico, Utah, and Wyoming. Upper Colorado River Basin means the same as Upper Basin. Upper Colorado River Basin Compact means the agreement signed October 11, 1948 by commissioners from those five states and approved by Congress on April 6, 1949 (63 Stat. 31). Rio Grande Compact means the agreement signed March 18, 1938 by commissioners from Colorado, New Mexico, and Texas and approved by Congress on May 31, 1939 (53 Stat. 785). Treaty with the United Mexican States means the treaty signed February 3, 1944 about using the Colorado River and other rivers, as changed by the protocol of November 14, 1944 and the understandings noted in the Senate resolution of April 18, 1945.
