Title 43 › Chapter 4— DISTRICT LAND OFFICES › § 94
The Secretary of the Treasury must repay, from unused funds set aside for land offices' extra expenses, amounts that officers named by the Secretary of the Interior paid as special paying agents at U.S. land offices before government funds arrived for hearing costs in land entries and for depositing public money. Repayments cannot exceed what Congress appropriated for that purpose in the fiscal year, and the disbursements must be lawful, follow Interior rules, and be approved by the Interior Secretary or a designee.
