Title 43 › Chapter 22— RIGHTS-OF-WAY AND OTHER EASEMENTS IN PUBLIC LANDS › § 967
If a U.S. citizen, company, or corporation wants the rights in sections 966–970, they must file a map of the pipeline with the land office officer the Secretary of the Interior names within 12 months after locating ten miles of the line on surveyed land. If the line is on unsurveyed land, they must file within 12 months after the United States surveys that land. Once the Secretary approves the map, the office will note it on the official plats and any land crossed by the line will be dealt with while keeping that right of way.
