§986 Selection of Lands Confirmed
Title 43 › Chapter 23— GRANTS OF SWAMP AND OVERFLOWED LANDS › § 986
Summary
Land that states told the General Land Office were swamp and overflowed, and that qualified under the Act of September 28, 1850, before March 3, A.D. 1857, is given to those states. This only applies if the land was still empty, not claimed, and not actually settled under any United States law.

All land selected and reported to the General Land Office as swamp and overflowed land by the several States entitled to the provisions of said Act of September 28, 1850, prior to March 3, A.D. 1857, are confirmed to said States respectively so far as the same remained vacant and unappropriated and not interfered with by an actual settlement under any law of the United States.
