Title 44 › Chapter 22— PRESIDENTIAL RECORDS › § 2209
The President, the Vice President, and certain staff must not create or send Presidential or Vice Presidential records from non-official messaging accounts unless they either copy an official account when sending it or forward a complete copy to an official account within 20 days. If a covered employee intentionally breaks this rule, a supervisor can use that as a basis for discipline under subchapter I, II, or V of chapter 75 of title 5. Definitions: covered employee — immediate staff of the President or Vice President and units/people in the Executive Office or Office of the Vice President who advise and assist; electronic messages — email and similar systems; electronic messaging account — any account that sends electronic messages.
