Title 44 › Chapter 29— RECORDS MANAGEMENT BY THE ARCHIVIST OF THE UNITED STATES AND BY THE ADMINISTRATOR OF GENERAL SERVICES › § 2903
The Archivist must control the National Archives Building and its contents and may buy, build, lease, maintain, operate, protect, or improve buildings to store federal records in D.C. and elsewhere. The Archivist may charge reasonable fees for occasional public use of rooms and services; those fees go into the National Archives Trust Fund to support archival and public programs.
