Statistical agencies must make and share timely, useful statistics; do work that is credible, accurate, and objective; and keep people’s answers confidential and used only for statistics. Agencies must create policies and procedures for these duties. Agency leaders must support the statistical units, and the Director will write rules to carry out these requirements. Definitions: Accurate — matches real events and trends. Confidentiality — not sharing data with unauthorized people. Objective — clear, complete, unbiased. Relevant — useful to policymakers and other data users.
