§1102 Statement of Purpose

Summary

Congress wants to stop federal payments for Conrail’s freight service by a fixed date, move Conrail’s commuter train duties to one or more organizations that mainly run commuter service, and return Conrail’s freight operations to private companies in an orderly way.

Title 45, §1102

It is therefore declared to be the purpose of the Congress in this subtitle to provide for— (1)

(2)transfer of Conrail commuter service responsibilities to one or more entities whose principal purpose is the provision of commuter service; and

(3)an orderly return of Conrail freight service to the private sector.
