§11201 Eligibility for Veterans’ Burial and Cemetery Benefits

Summary

Counts certain people’s qualified service as active-duty wartime service so they can get Department of Veterans Affairs burial benefits and burial in national cemeteries. It only applies to people who get an honorable service certificate under section 11203 and who are not already eligible for VA benefits under some other law. The relevant Secretary must repay the Department of Veterans Affairs for benefits the VA provides because of this rule. Benefits normally cover deaths that happen after the date this chapter became law. But if the first burial or columbarium placement happens after that date, national cemetery benefits (including under section 2306) can be given even if the death was earlier.
