§12138 List of Documented Vessels

Summary

The Secretary must keep and regularly publish a list of all documented vessels and any details the Secretary finds useful. That list must clearly mark which vessels are classed by the American Bureau of Shipping. The Secretary of Transportation must create and update a separate inventory of documented vessels at least 200 feet long that can lay, maintain, or repair submarine cables, even if they are not called cable ships. For each vessel the inventory must give the vessel’s name, size (length, beam, depth) and other identifying features, what it can and cannot do for cable work, and a contact name and address. The inventory must be published in the Federal Register every 6 months.
