§50108 Studies on Cargo Carriage and Cargo Containers

Summary

The Secretary of Transportation must study ways to promote new ideas for moving cargo in U.S. domestic and foreign trade. The Secretary must also study the economic and technical issues of using cargo containers to carry out the national shipping policy. The U.S. government may not favor one carrier over another because of the length, height, or width of cargo containers or container cells. That ban applies to all existing container ships and to any container ship that will be built or rebuilt.
