§51702 Civilian Nautical Schools

Summary

Lets the Secretary of Transportation inspect and certify civilian nautical schools and make rules for those inspections and ratings. A "civilian nautical school" is a U.S. school (not the United States Merchant Marine Academy, a State maritime academy, or another school run by the U.S. government) that trains people who live aboard a vessel for work in the merchant marine. The Secretary can create standards to judge and certify whether a school's classes, teachers, and equipment are good enough.
