§1204 Grant Program for Remote Community Alert Systems

Summary

The Under Secretary of Commerce for Oceans and Atmosphere, working with the Secretary of Homeland Security, must create a grant program to pay for outdoor emergency alert systems in remote communities that the Federal Communications Commission identifies as effectively unserved by commercial mobile service within 180 days after October 13, 2006. The grants are meant to help people in those places receive emergency alerts. The Under Secretary must set up how to notify people and how to apply for grants, and may set rules and require promises to make sure the program runs properly. No grants may be made more than 5 years after October 13, 2006, and the total awarded may not exceed $10,000,000.
