Title 47 › Chapter 2— SUBMARINE CABLES › § 24
Requires ship captains to follow the special signals used to avoid collisions near vessels that are laying or repairing submarine cables. If a captain sees (or could see) those signals on a telegraph ship and does not stay at least one nautical mile away, or sees buoys marking a cable and does not stay at least one quarter nautical mile away, they commit a misdemeanor and can be jailed up to one month or fined up to $500.
