Title 47 › Chapter 5— WIRE OR RADIO COMMUNICATION › Subchapter III— SPECIAL PROVISIONS RELATING TO RADIO › Part II— Radio Equipment and Radio Operators On Board Ship › § 360
Each United States ship must list the specific radio items required by the rules on its station license. Every covered ship must have its radio equipment checked at least once a year by the Commission or someone the Commission appoints. If the equipment meets the rules, the Commission will note that on the license. The Commission can also do extra inspections as often as it thinks are needed. The Commission may delay a yearly inspection up to 90 days to let a ship finish a voyage and reach a U.S. port. It may also delay the inspection for a ship that follows the Safety Convention and is working only outside U.S. waters, but that ship must be inspected within 30 days after it returns to the United States.
