Title 48 › Chapter 18— MICRONESIA, MARSHALL ISLANDS, AND PALAU › Subchapter IV— MICRONESIA, MARSHALL ISLANDS, AND PALAU: 2023 AGREEMENTS › § 1981
Congress finds that the United States met its duties under the trusteeship system and the United Nations to help the people of the Trust Territory of the Pacific Islands move toward self-government or independence, based on what the people wanted. Congress also finds that the U.S. made Compacts of Free Association with the Federated States of Micronesia, the Republic of the Marshall Islands, and the Republic of Palau to keep close, cooperative relationships. Agreements with Micronesia and the Marshall Islands were amended and approved in 2003. An agreement with Palau was signed on September 3, 2010, and amended on September 19, 2018. On May 22, 2023, the U.S. signed an agreement with Palau from the 2023 Section 432 review. On May 23, 2023, the U.S. signed three agreements related to the U.S.–FSM Compact, including an amendment, a new fiscal procedures agreement, and a new trust fund agreement, and on September 28, 2023, it signed a Federal Programs and Services agreement for FSM. On October 16, 2023, the U.S. signed three agreements related to the U.S.–RMI Compact, including an amendment, a new fiscal procedures agreement, and a new trust fund agreement.
