Title 48 › Chapter 19— PACIFIC POLICY REPORTS › § 2002
The Secretary of the Interior must send a report to the President and Congress not later than one year after January 14, 1986, and every five years after that. The Secretary of State must be consulted. The report must explain U.S. policy for noncontiguous Pacific areas and include any recommendations needed to carry out that policy. The report must lay out clear policies for U.S. and U.S.-associated noncontiguous Pacific areas. It must cover the areas' role in foreign policy; whether federal laws, rules, and programs apply there or need changes because of local circumstances; how well federal agencies work with those local governments and coordinate actions while keeping Congress informed; and what steps may help the areas’ economic and social development in line with their own goals.
