Gives the Department of Transportation Inspector General the power to check the Surface Transportation Board’s money, property, and business operations, including its accounting and internal controls, to see if the Board follows federal laws and rules. The Inspector General must tell the Board Chairman and the Senate Commerce, Science, and Transportation Committee and the House Transportation and Infrastructure Committee about any control or accounting problems. The Inspector General must give findings and recommendations and send periodic reports on progress. The Inspector General may use the powers in 5 U.S.C. 406(a) and (c). Money to pay for this work may be appropriated to the Secretary of Transportation, and if not, the Inspector General and the Board must agree to reimburse costs.
