Summary

You must be registered under this chapter to operate as a motor carrier (under subchapter I of chapter 135), a freight forwarder (under subchapter III of chapter 135), or a broker for transportation (under subchapter I). When the Secretary registers someone, the Secretary must give a separate, unique registration number for each kind of authority. Each number will show whether it is for a motor carrier, freight forwarder, or broker. For every agreement to provide transportation or related service, the registrant must put in writing which authority they are using.
