§24906 Eliminating Highway At-grade Crossings

Summary

The Secretary of Transportation must, with the States along the Northeast Corridor main line, create a plan by September 30, 1993, to remove every place where a road and the railroad cross at the same level on that main line by December 31, 1997. The plan can say a crossing does not have to be removed if removing it is not possible or not needed, or if keeping it is allowed under safety rules the Secretary sets. Amtrak must pay 20 percent of the cost to remove each crossing covered by the plan.
