Title 49 › Subtitle SUBTITLE V— RAIL PROGRAMS › Part E— MISCELLANEOUS › Chapter 281— LAW ENFORCEMENT › § 302
Congress says rail is a vital part of North American transportation and helped build strong communities in the western United States and Canada. Federal support stopped before rail links reached Alaska and the Yukon Territory. Rail lines in remote places can control access and reduce harm to sensitive land. Extending the continental rail system through northern British Columbia and the Yukon to the end of the Alaska Railroad would help tourism by moving people comfortably while reducing local impacts. Ongoing rail research is making trains more efficient, safer, and less harmful to the environment.
