§44748 Aircraft Dispatching

Summary

People who work as aircraft dispatchers for an airline must have the proper dispatcher certificate issued by the FAA Administrator. If the FAA Administrator, an authorized National Transportation Safety Board representative, or another federal agency asks, a dispatcher on duty must show that certificate. Airlines must set up and run enough dispatch and flight‑following centers to keep control of every flight at all times. Each center must have enough dispatchers working, the needed equipment in good repair, and physical and computer security to block unauthorized access. Airlines may only send flights from their own dispatch or flight‑following centers, except if a center becomes unusable in an emergency. Then an airline may use another location for up to 14 consecutive days per location without FAA approval.
