Title 49 › SUBTITLE VII — AVIATION PROGRAMS › PART A — AIR COMMERCE AND SAFETY › subpart iii — safety › CHAPTER 453 — FEES › § 45302
The FAA Administrator may charge fees for services tied to aircraft and pilots when the aircraft are not used to provide air transportation. The law limits the fees to no more than these amounts: $12 to issue a pilot’s airman certificate, $25 to register an aircraft after it changes owners, $15 to renew an aircraft registration, and $7.50 to process a form for a major repair or change to a fuel tank or fuel system. The Administrator must adjust those maximum amounts for changes in the Consumer Price Index of All Urban Consumers published by the Secretary of Labor. Money collected is put into the Treasury account the FAA uses to pay expenses under chapter 441 and sections 44701–44716, except 44701(c), 44703(g)(2), and 44713(d)(2). No fee under this rule can be charged until the regulations under 44111(d), 44703(g)(2), and 44713(d)(2) take effect, and no fee can be charged for a service while a fee for the same service is being charged under section 45305.
