Summary

Anyone — including a United States officer, agent, employee, or a public agency worker — who knowingly lies to cheat the Government about a project tied to a grant to the Secretary of Transportation can be punished. They can be fined under Title 18 of the U.S. Code, sent to prison for up to 5 years, or both. This covers lying about the type, amount, quality, or price of materials or work in drawings or documents (like plans, maps, technical specs, contracts, or cost estimates) for a project in a grant application; making a false claim for work or materials on a grant-approved project; and making a false statement in any required report or certification under this subchapter.
