Title 49 › Subtitle SUBTITLE X— MISCELLANEOUS › Chapter 801— BILLS OF LADING › § 80109
A carrier that gives a negotiable bill of lading can keep the goods until certain charges are paid. This covers storage, shipping, and delivery costs (including demurrage and terminal fees) and expenses to protect or handle the goods after the bill’s date, plus other charges if the bill clearly claims a lien and those charges are allowed by law and by the agreement between the consignor and carrier.
