Title 49 › SUBTITLE X — MISCELLANEOUS › CHAPTER 805 — MISCELLANEOUS › § 80503
Owners, operators, or agents of private planes or private boats may pay up to $25 for an officer’s inspection or quarantine help from the Department of Agriculture, Customs, Immigration and Naturalization, or the Public Health Service (including a Public Health Service contractor). This payment can apply when the service happens on a Sunday, a holiday, or between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. on a weekday and is tied to the craft arriving in or leaving the United States. A private aircraft means a civilian aircraft not used to carry people or goods for pay. A private vessel means a civilian vessel not used to carry people or goods for pay or for fishing or fish processing. If an officer on regular duty is already available at the arrival or departure place, the owner does not have to pay for services between 5 p.m. and 8 a.m. The agency that provided the service must collect the payment and deposit it in the Treasury, and the money goes to that agency’s appropriation. For aircraft, reimbursement for services during regular hours on a Sunday or holiday must be the same as for regular weekday hours. Agencies may not charge administrative overhead at an entry airport. This does not require payment for customs costs described in section 13031(e)(1) of the Consolidated Omnibus Budget Reconciliation Act of 1985 (19 U.S.C. 58c(e)(1)).
