Title 50 › Chapter 36— FOREIGN INTELLIGENCE SURVEILLANCE › Subchapter II— PHYSICAL SEARCHES › § 1827
Makes it a crime for someone acting with government authority to do a physical search inside the United States to get foreign intelligence when the search is not allowed by law. It also makes it a crime to use or share information you know or have reason to know came from such an unauthorized physical search to obtain intelligence. If the person was a law-enforcement or investigative officer and the search was done under a valid search warrant or court order, that is a defense. A person convicted can be fined up to $10,000, imprisoned for up to five years, or both. Federal courts can hear the case if the person was a U.S. officer or employee when the act happened.
