Title 50 › Chapter 13— INSURRECTION › § 217
People in the U.S. military or navy must not deal in captured or abandoned property for any profit to themselves or connected persons; if they get such property they must notify an appointed agent and deliver it at once. Officers, sutlers, soldiers, marines, or others who break this commit a misdemeanor punishable by up to $5,000 fine and three years' imprisonment, and cases may be tried in civil or military courts.
