Title 50 › Chapter 13— INSURRECTION › § 226
When a ship or other property is seized in a case about insurrection or rebellion, the court must use the sale money to pay any real claims by loyal U.S. citizens or by people from friendly foreign countries who join the case and prove their claim under U.S. or a non-rebel state's law. No payment is allowed if the claimant knowingly helped use the property illegally. Only claims that could have been enforced directly against that ship or property in the non-rebel state where the claim came from are covered.
