Title 50 › Chapter 40— DEFENSE AGAINST WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION › Subchapter IV–A— NONPROLIFERATION ASSISTANCE COORDINATION › § 2357c
Creates a central U.S. coordinating group to lead and organize nonproliferation and threat-reduction work worldwide, with special focus on the independent states of the former Soviet Union. It must make sure U.S. efforts follow national policy and help agencies spot and prepare for new nonproliferation problems. The group can form subcommittees and working teams. It can order studies on coordination inside the government, between government and private groups (including how public money and private investment are used for defense conversion in the former Soviet states), and between the U.S. and other countries. It can give guidance to avoid overlap and get the most out of U.S. spending, ask companies and NGOs to report voluntary efforts, and recommend new laws or rules to the President.
