Title 50 › Chapter 43— PREVENTING WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION PROLIFERATION AND TERRORISM › Subchapter II— ASSISTANCE TO ACCELERATE PROGRAMS TO PREVENT WEAPONS OF MASS DESTRUCTION PROLIFERATION AND TERRORISM › § 2922
Authorizes money for fiscal year 2008 for the Department of Defense Cooperative Threat Reduction Program to pay for three things: destroying chemical weapons at Shchuch’ye, Russia; stopping the spread of biological weapons; and speeding up, expanding, and strengthening the program’s activities. The total amount made available cannot be more than the amounts set in any National Defense Authorization Act for fiscal year 2008, whether that Act was passed before or after August 3, 2007. Congress says the President should speed up and increase funding for these Cooperative Threat Reduction programs in fiscal year 2008 and future years. Starting on August 3, 2007, the President should also work to get more commitments from Russia and other partner countries, as the 9/11 Commission recommended.
