The Director of National Intelligence can create one or more jobs inside the intelligence community called "Functional Manager" for a specific intelligence function. The Director must pick people who already work in the intelligence community to fill those jobs. Each Functional Manager must be the Director’s main adviser on that function and must carry out any other tasks the Director assigns.
