The Director of National Intelligence must appoint an Intelligence Community Chief Data Officer to work in the Director’s office. The appointee must have the right professional experience, and the Director may prefer someone who has worked outside the U.S. government. That officer represents the Director on data across the intelligence community, coordinates with the Defense Department on data policies, helps with ODNI budget data, and carries out other data duties the Director or law assigns.
