§3111 Briefings and Notifications on Counterintelligence Activities of the Federal Bureau of Investigation

Summary

The FBI Director must give the congressional intelligence committees a counterintelligence briefing at least once every quarter, or more often if the committees ask. The briefing must include an overview of the FBI’s counterintelligence posture, updates on counterintelligence investigations, and any other related information the Director thinks is needed. The Director must quickly notify the committees of any counterintelligence investigation tied to an election or a campaign for federal office. The Director must create guidelines for the briefings, the notifications, and the information tied to section 3371(a)(2). The committees must be consulted while the guidelines are made, and the Director must send the guidelines when issued and any updates within 15 days.
