The FBI Director must brief the congressional intelligence committees at least once each quarter, and more often if the committees ask. Each briefing must give an update on the FBI’s counterintelligence position and readiness, report on current counterintelligence investigations, and include any other related information the Director thinks is needed. The Director must also quickly tell the committees about any counterintelligence investigation connected to a federal election or campaign. The Director must create guidelines that say what the briefings, the election-related notifications, and the information required under section 3371(a)(2) should cover. The Director must consult the committees while making those guidelines, give the guidelines to the committees when issued, and send any updates within 15 days.
