The Secretary of State must tell the Director of National Intelligence and the Secretary of Defense when a U.S. diplomatic or consular post abroad is going to close for 60 days or more. If possible, that notice should come at least 30 days before the closure. Within 30 days after getting that notice, the Director of National Intelligence must report to the listed congressional committees on how the closure will affect the intelligence community, after talking with other intelligence leaders. The report must say whether those leaders were consulted and whether they raised concerns or objections. The committees are: the congressional intelligence committees; Senate Foreign Relations and House Foreign Affairs; Senate and House Armed Services; and Senate and House Appropriations.
