Title 50 › Chapter 45— MISCELLANEOUS INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY AUTHORITIES › Subchapter I— BUDGET AND OVERSIGHT › § 3307
Directors of the National Counterterrorism Center, directors of national intelligence centers, or the head of any part of the intelligence community must give the Chair or the top minority member of the Senate or House Armed Services Committee any existing intelligence assessment, report, estimate, or legal opinion about matters the committee handles, within 45 days after getting a written request. If the President claims a constitutional privilege and decides not to provide the material, the document need not be given, and the White House Counsel must send Congress a written notice of that claim. Definitions (one line each): intelligence community — as defined in section 3003(4) of this title; intelligence assessment — an analytical study on a policy-important topic (not basic research or reference aids); intelligence estimate — an appraisal of intelligence about a specific situation to predict likely enemy actions.
