Title 50 › Chapter 45— MISCELLANEOUS INTELLIGENCE COMMUNITY AUTHORITIES › Subchapter III— SECURITY CLEARANCES AND CLASSIFIED INFORMATION › § 3342
Each eligible candidate for President may, before the date of the general election, request security clearances for people on their transition team who will need access to classified information to do their work. "Eligible candidate" means who the Presidential Transition Act of 1963 (3 U.S.C. 102 note) defines. Agencies must finish the necessary background checks and clearance decisions, as fully as possible, by the day after the date of the general election.
