The Director of National Intelligence must pick a national counterintelligence officer inside the National Counterintelligence and Security Center to lead election security counterintelligence. That officer must handle threats from foreign powers (see section 1801) to five areas, including the election supply chain; voting systems and software; voter registration databases; election-related infrastructure; and other government goods and services the Director finds appropriate.
