Title 50 › Chapter 50— SERVICEMEMBERS CIVIL RELIEF › Subchapter III— RENT, INSTALLMENT CONTRACTS, MORTGAGES, LIENS, ASSIGNMENT, LEASES, COMMUNICATIONS SERVICE CONTRACTS › § 3957
Stops someone who holds a servicemember’s life insurance policy as security for a debt (except the insurance company for a policy loan) from using the policy during the member’s military service and for one year after unless a court says it’s allowed. It does not block action if the servicemember gives written permission while serving, if premiums are unpaid, or if the servicemember dies. A court can deny permission if military service makes it hard for the member to meet the debt. Premiums guaranteed under subchapter IV are not treated as unpaid. Anyone who knowingly breaks this can be fined under Title 18, jailed up to one year, or both.
