Defines key words used in this subchapter. Policy: an individual life insurance contract (whole, endowment, universal, or term — not group term). It also includes similar benefits from fraternal groups if the contract forbids lowering coverage or charging extra because of military service (except age-based increases in individual term policies), forbids limiting coverage for required military activities, and was in force at least 180 days before entering service and at application. Premium: the amount paid to keep a policy active. Insured: a servicemember whose life is covered. Insurer: a company or business legally allowed to sell insurance.
